Seminar theme: Regulatory Issues in Mobile Networks

Lawyers in general and regulators in particular have a key role in molding the structures of the new mobile value systems. EU has initiated clear actions. Industry players have to closely monitor and anticipate the regulatory impact. This seminar will cover current and future regulatory issues focusing on the mobile market. Participants learn about the strategic decision options of regulators, operators, and consumers. Materials of individual assignments include theoretical models and case studies. Participants enhance their skills in information searching and in English language, spoken and written. Participants are encouraged to extend their seminar paper into a conference paper.

Registration

Please register via the TOPI system, or in case of trouble via e-mail.

The number of participants is limited to 18. In case of too many candidates, the first priority goes to graduate students, Telecom Management major, and best grades. Seminar organizers will inform candidates by email in case of non-acceptance.

Course completion

The participants produce written contributions for web distribution. Contributions should appear as a written paper (5 text pages,  two columns, font size 10pt, including 2-3 self-made figures, see example) and presentation slides. The paper and slides should be emailed to the opponent and the course assistant at latest five days before the presentation (i.e. on Friday night at 23:59).

In addition to writing and presenting a paper, each participant acts as an opponent to one of the other presentations. The opponent should read the paper and write down his/her comments in a Word document. The comments should be given in a structured way, taking into account three different aspects: the relevance, the form, and the substance of the paper. The opponent should email the comments to the course assistant at latest two days before the presentation (i.e. on Monday night at 23:59).

The course assistant will email the papers, presentation slides, and opponent comments to everyone one day before the presentation.

In the seminar days, the time allotted for each presentation is as follows:
A maximum of two absences is allowed from the seminar sessions.

Grading

Seminar consists of parts each having a minimum acceptable level of performance:
Oral presentation, written contribution, and acting as opponent are each having the same weight on the final grade of the course.

The initial list of topics is shown below. Each participant will choose a topic from the list according to his/her interests. The participants may also suggest an own topic. Final assignment of topics will be organized on the first meeting of the seminar.

The first session will be held on Wednesday, September 29th at 15:15 in D302 when the topics will be allocated to participants. Seminar then continues on Wednesdays at 15:15-17:15 until December 1st.
