COURSE REQUIREMENTS
0. General instructions
- If you have done laboratory course A (S-38.2131) you don't need to attend the introduction lecture the second time. You may if you want.
But you need to register to the course anyhow.
- Reports are written in English.
- The labs are done in groups of two persons.
- The labs should be done within one study year.
- The number of students may have to be limited.
- When you write reports you are not supposed to copy the text directly eg. from the background material or other
sources, but rather write it in your own words. It is also encouraged to use more than one source.
- When writing reports you are not allowed to cite Wikipedia.
Wikipedia states in its guidelines that "its contents are not suitable for academic citation". For more explanation look at the article at
Communications of the ACM, no. 9, September 2007.
- In case of fraud the following rules will be applied.
The final grade of the course
- The works have the same emphasis, except the grade for the work 27-IPv4 Routing which is emphasized with 2.
In the case you choose to do five labs (3 ECTS) the total grade of the course is calculated:
(1xgrade(STN)+1xgrade(VoIP)+2xgrade(IPv4)+1xgrade(VPN)+1xgrade(IPv6))/6
The total grade of each lab work is composed as follows:
- The grade of the preliminary report +
- The grade of the final report +
- Working in the laboratory
The grading scale is from 0 to 1...5.

1. Preliminary report for every assignment (1/group)
- The questions can be found in the material.
- The title page of the preliminary reports should look like THIS. It means that the title page should be identical with the model, TKK logo and the text
in the same place, the font is Arial etc.
- The preliminary report should be returned through the reservation system (in pdf -form) at least three days before the
laboratory assignment.
- As you write your report, you MUST ALWAYS include the REFERENCE where you got the material. For references on the web write the date when you read it.
- You should prepare yourself well for each laboratory work. Read the work instructions and do the preparation
tasks if there are any (in addition to the preliminary report). That will save you time, which is limited.
If you exceed the reserved time, the grade will be lower.
- Use @cc.hut.fi or @tkk.fi or @hut.fi email address in your reports.

2. Laboratory assignments in the laboratory
- Both students must be present all the time.
- During the assignment students are recommended to make notes.
- The questions can be found in the material.
- The lab works give study points as follows:
- 3 works give 2 ECTS
- 5 works give 3 ECTS
- 7 works give 4 ECTS
- 9 works give 5 ECTS
- If you want to do more labs it is possible. You can include your excess lab works to the course "S-38.3134 Networking
Technology, laboratory works C" (1-3 ECTS) as follows:
- 2 works give 1 ECTS (if you have done totally 11 works)
- 3 works give 2 ECTS (if you have done totally 12 works)
- 5 works give 3 ECTS (if you have done totally 14 works)
- Note that if you have taken course S-38.2131 those works cannot be included in this course.
- Your performance in the lab will effect to the overall grade, e.g. if you exceed the time, if the assistant needs to advice you all the time and so on.
- The laboratory time is three hours or five hours depending on the work. If you are not able to finish the work you may reserve a new time, but
it will have effect on your grade.

- The report of the work '27 IPv4 Routing' should follow these instructions.
- The reports of every assignment should be returned through the reservation system (in pdf -form) no later than two weeks after
the assignment.
- If you return the report in time but it is not accepted you need to correct it and return it within one week.
- If your report is still not accepted it is considered failed. In that case you are not allowed to do it again but you need to choose another work.
