    Objectives:
    Topics covered by the course include

    Prerequisite: S-72.423 Telecommunication Systems and S-38.188 Computer networks.

    Registration and info:
    Obligatory registration is via WWW-TOPI. Possible changes in the course will be announced at lectures, lab's bulletin board and on this web page. Please, follow also information in the news group opinnot.sahko.s-38.tietoverkkotekniikka.

    Lectures:
    Lectures are given on Tuesdays in S2 at 13-16, starting on 18.1.2005. The last lecture is on 19.4.2005. Lecture material will be as a compendium via Edita. The material will also become available on this web page (see Preliminary schedule/material).

    Exercises:
    Exercises are held on Thursdays in E110 at 12-14. The first exercise is on 27.1.2005 and the last one on 21.4.2005. Active students can gain 0 - 6 exercise points, which are accounted when determining the grade of an exam. The extra points are valid in exams arranged in the year 2005.     The exercise sessions will be held in English (not in Finnish as stated in the advance information). You can return your answers in English or in Finnish by (a) bringing them into the exercise session and returning them personally before the session starts, (b) returning them by e-mail (kari.seppanen@vtt.fi) in PDF or PS format (any other format will be rejected without any further notice) or (c) using the return box labelled "S-38.165" located in the Dept. of Electrical and Communication Eng. Building, 2nd floor, near the G section, under the Lab's bulletin board. The deadlines will be 12:15 in the case (a), 11:00 in (b) and 12:00 in (c). If your answers need multiple papers, make sure that they are stapled before returning them. An answer containing a pile of loose leaflets will be rejected without further notice.

    Exercise points

    Examination:
    The first exam is on 9.5.2005 in S1 at 16-19. Two additional exams will be organised in the autumn 2005. Exams will be based on the material presented in the lectures and exercises in the spring 2005. Some old exams are available here.

    An examination includes five questions and each of them gives 0 - 6 points. The grade of an exam is based on the points yielded from the exam and extra points yielded from the exercises.

    Course completion: To complete the course, one has to pass the examination.
