The voice mail sercvices are proving to be the key factor for mobile operators to keep up with new services the market demands as they represent the means to enhance significantly the quality of the service, increase the customer base and speed up the development of the network.

Voice mail services will offer great benefits to the operator as well to the subscriber: the former wants higher profits, while the latter wants to communicate better. To accomplish this, the operator must stimulate traffic demand while the subscriber has to recognize the advantages of the new features, both at work and at home.

In the future, voice mail services will likely pave the way for the introduction of other advanced and innovative services, such as SMS and high-speed data services. Services such as specific point-to-point and point-to-multipoint services are supported for applications such as traffic telematics and UIC train control. A set of advanced services will be offered for bussines establishment and private people.

Advanced Consumer Applications 

  • information on demand regarding weather, traffic, entertainment, stock exchange, flight schedule etc.
  • bank transactions
  • fast communication with the service provider to receive administrative information such as statements, bill reminders, or new services

An example of advantages which could be gained from these service is given here:

A truck driver sends a customer invoice back to the company, just by pressing a button on a terminal in the cab. A fashion designer travelling in a foreign country switches on her Personal Digital Assistant (PDA ) and with a 'beep', she receives a couple of megabytes of new designs, without even making a call.

Such capabilities help people do their jobs better. And GPRS - with enhanced data transmission capabilities - will be the means by which they happen.

  • tracking of taxis and credit card validation for customer payment
  • control over the position of trucks for transportation companies
  • localization of stolen cars
  • support of security and monitoring systems
  • distribution of specific short messages to selected groups of users in large corporations
