Exams and course requirements

To pass the course you need to

The exam questions are based on the Finnish course material, but the course can be passed also by reading other books. (More information about the course material). The objective of this course is to give you a clear, basic knowledge of the central concepts and techniques used in telecommunications technology, and the exam questions will concentrate on these essential subjects (on a rather general level).

Old exam questions can be found here. Note, that older exams are based on a different course material.

The exam dates and class rooms can be found in Topi. In the exam you only need a pen / pencil and your (student) identity card. All papers are provided by the exam supervisor. No electronic devices (such as calculators, mobile phones, notebooks) are needed and thus allowed in the exam.

Exam results will be published on the web on the results-page. The first exam of this course will be in March 2003.

Assignment

There is an optional assignment in the course S-38.105 (Principles in Communication Engineering). You may get a bonus to your grade by doing the assignment. This spring, the topic is writing your own learning diary. It shall be written based on five (5) lectures, one page per lecture. If you wish, you may substitute one diary entry by writing about something you have studied by yourself.

In your diary, outline what you have learned, write about what was new, what was difficult, have you read elsewhere about the same topic, how does it correspond to what you have learned during this course, and so on. The purpose of keeping a learning diary is both to review the topics discussed during lectures and to acquaint yourself with your personal way of learning.

Sign up for the assignment with Topi. The assignment will be turned in by e-mail (mari@netlab.hut.fi) by March 10th. You may get up to 3 points added to your exam total. Don't hesitate to ask Mari if anything concerning the assigment is unclear.
