S-38.105 Principles in Communications Engineering 2001

General

The course is lectured in Spring 2001. The lectures and the official course material will be in Finnish, but the course can be passed also by reading certain chapters from "The Telecommunications Handbook" by Kornel Terplan and Patricia Morreale. Note! It is essential, that you enroll both to the course and the exams with Topi. It is the only way for the course personnel to know how many non-Finnish students are taking this course in Spring 2001. Do it now!

Homework

The homework is not compulsory this year. However, if the student has taken the examination in January 2001 (or earlier), this rule does not apply, since the earlier exams have been arranged according to former course requirements. Therefore those students, who have started this course already in 2000 and have not yet completed the course, still have to do the homework (since the homework was required from them before).

Last years home work was:

"Your job is to write an article about "the most important event in telecommunications in the year 2000". To be able to write the article you need to read newspapers, magazines etc. and get a grasp of what is going on in the world of telecommunications right now. Based on your reading, choose the most important event and write a magazine article on the event. The article should include your reasons for choosing the event and references to the material you have read. The article should be one A4 page long."

Since only a few students need to do the home work this year, we are going to re-use last years topic: write an article about The most important event in telecommunications in Spring 2001. The details of the work are similar to last year (please, read the instructions quoted above). The work is to be returned by March 19th to the box marked S-38.105 in the G-wing (under the notice board).

Examinations

You need to enroll to all the examinations at least one week (7 days) before the exam. Normally this is done with Topi, where information on the next exam can be found.

The exams are not translated into English automatically, so you really need to enroll in advance, if you want to have the questions in English!
