Introduction
Autonomic communications is a powerful new paradigm for
self-optimizing wireless networks, including cellular networks.
Distributing the functionalities of network intelligence to the radio
interface devices poses many grand challenges and many open questions
that crave for exploration.
Study information
This instance of the course will produce 5-8 ECTS. The course can be included in post-graduate studies on Networking Technology (major or minor in S38). The credits can also be included in
graduate studies on Networking Technology.

Registration
Please register to the course via wwwtopi. Note that
the number of participants will be limited to 15 students. If you do not have (post graduate) student status at TKK, contact the course assistant to sign up to the course. In order to get credits from this course you need to obtain student (or post-graduate student) status during fall term 2006. Contact your supervising professor for more details.
Course goals
The suggested topics are found here. The goal of this course is to introduce the students to the state of the art, existing research and latest developments in the area of autonomic communications in radio access networks. The learning goal of an individual student over the course topic is to have a detailed enough general knowledge. On the particular subjects of study the individual student is to be able to fluently present and evaluate existing solutions and ongoing research. Furthermore, the student must be able to apply his/her knowledge and suggest improvements to the existing research. To excel in this course and aiming for higher grades the student has to be able to present initial results of the suggested improvements.
The course is meant to act as a stepping stone for the students to submit (and hopefully also publish) their contribution to The 1st International Workshop on Autonomic Wireless AccesS (IWAS 2007) in conjunction with WoWMoM 2007, Helsinki.
Course arrangements
The course main events will be arranged as an interactive seminar. Seminar language will be English. The suggested topics are found here. You can also propose your own topic. In this case, please contact the course assistant with one page proposal containing an executive summary of your suggested topic and list of 3-5 relevant references.
Check also the course requirements for further details.
As always, your comments and suggestions towards improving the seminar are also
welcome.
