S-38.350 Research Seminar on Telecommunications Technology (1-2 cr) LV

General

AIM:

The aim of this seminar is mainly to be a rather informal coffee break seminar at the Networking Laboratory (formerly the Laboratory of Telecommunications). There will be two types of presentations: long (30 - 45 min) tutorial presentations invited from other laboratories and short (20 - 30 min) presentations related to telecommunications. Registered postgraduate students may obtain 1 to 2 credits from this seminar.

This semester speakers (giving tutorial presentations) include: docent Kaisa Nyberg from Nokia Research Center, academy professor Kimmo Kaski from the Laboratory of Computational Engineering , research prof. Ilkka Norros from VTT, docent Päivi Törmä from the Laboratory of Computational Engineering, professor Jussi Keppo from University of Michigan, and professor Matti Karjalainen from the Acoustics Laboratory.

If you are interested in giving a short presentation (and obtaining 2 credits from the seminar), please read the instructions below on passing the seminar and e-mail the proposed topic to the contact person.

Passing the Seminar

Seminar is passed with 1 credit by attending at least eight (8) sessions during the semester. An additional credit may be obtained by giving a presentation in the seminar and writing a short report. Only topics in telecommunications are accepted and "recycling" of the same presentation in different seminars is not tolerated.

The speakers should keep in mind the differing backgrounds of the attending audience and, therefore, the presentations should be prepared in such a way that enough background on the topic is given so that it does not require an expert to be able to follow the presentation.

Seminar grading: passed or failed
