Objective

The course is one of the core courses in the Networking Technology major and is also part of the Master's program in Telecommunications. The objective of the course is to give students a strong background in signaling systems used in different networks. After successful completion of the course students will understand:

how networks inter-work
how calls or sessions can be set up, managed and released in different networks using different alternative methods that are typically found in networks
what are the auxiliary functions related to signaling and how do they work
the technology trend in signaling and call/session control
how switching system functionality is inherited into a packet network environment.

Prerequisites

S-72.1130 (S-72.423) Telecommunication Systems or corresponding knowledge.

General information

In spring 2007, the course is arranged in period III.
Lectures are twice a week,

on Tuesdays at 8-10 in S3
on Fridays at 12-14 in S5

Additional lectures are given during the exercise classes, also twice a week,

on Wednesdays at 12-14 in S3
on Fridays at 14-16 in S5

There is a mandatory webquiz for every lecture.

The course will be given in English.

The first exam will be arranged on Wednesday, 9.3.2007 at 13-16 in S5.

Passing the course requires passing the exam, exercises and webquizes. In order to get the exam right, you need to get enough points from the exercises and webquizes. More information about exercises and webquizes coming later.
