4.6 POWER SEARCH COMMANDS

Search engines provide users different tools and properties to find information. Almost every major search engine support the basic mathematical commands, such as include term (+), exclude term (-) and phrases (" "). There are also many power search commands which funktionality varies much between search engines. Many of the major search engines allow user to search title of a web page within the HTML. This is the text that appears within the title tag of a document. Another power search method is site search. One of the most powerful features available is the ability to control what sites are included or excluded from a search, and that can be done by site search. Very similar method to site search is URL’s search. It offer the ability to search within the text of a URL. Several search engines offer also the ability to search for all the pages linking to a particular page or domain. At last, one very usuful power search method for plurals or variations of words is a wildcard character (*). It is also a great way to search if you don’t know the spelling of a word. Search Engines’ support for power search methods described above varies. They have shown in the table.
