Dear friend!

Kirsi & Seppo have during past three years done quite a lot of work to gather material for the course S-38.105 Tietoliikennetekniikan perusteet. One of the main goals has been to publish a student friendly priced book (70 FIM now) to cover all the subjects needed to pass the test (and to get a grade 5). The book is known as the title Tietoliikenneaapinen.

Some of our foreign students at HUT have not yet gained to knowledge in Finnish in such a level high enough to read and understand written Finnish technical text. For those a package of articles has been pointed out during past few years. This method has been proven to be time consuming for the personnel and costly for the students. Also a book has been used, but it covers only a part of the course - and is now totally out of date.

During the academic year 2000-2001 we have decided to recommend only one book - or parts of it: The Telecommunications Handbook (editors Kornel Terplan & Patricia Morreale). This may be convenient for students, who need not collect the reading from numerous sources.

The book is indexed as ISBN 3-540-66356-8 for Springer Verlag in Germany, but is known also as ISBN 0-8493-3137-4 for North America. The laboratory cannot help you accessing the book, but it is supposed that the book is available at the biggest bookstores in Helsinki.
