S-38/TU-91 Telecommunications Management 2001-2002

The Telecommunications Management major and additional minor are structured to provide the students the means to succeed in the dynamic telecommunications sector. The major and the minor provide a holistic view on the business and technologies involved. The business-oriented courses of the major and minor give a general view on corporate strategy, technology management, and technology venturing, with a special emphasis on the telecommunications industry. A deep understanding of the industry is developed through preparin g written assignments on interesting business cases. The courses dealing with telecommunications technologies provide the necessary basic tehcnical knowledge in telecommunications and digital media.

The Telecommunications Management major and minor are organized in close cooperation with leading companies in the teleocmmunicatioins industry. In addition to receiving leading-edge knowledge, the students benefit from the cooperation in the form of valuable contacts.

Graduating with a major or minor in Telecommunications Management will open up positions in, for example:

Students choosing Telecommunications Management as their major or minor are encouraged to emphasize language studies, since the telecommunicatioins industry is truly an international one. Students should also accumulate international exposure in the form of work and studies abroad.

The major in Telecommunications Management is geared to students of Communications Engineering, Product Development and User Interfaces (CE PDU) option. This major must be complemented with a technical minor. The technical minor can be any minor subject provided in one of the following degree programs: Communications Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering and Technical Physics such that no more than 40% of its credit units are composed of management courses. Some of the compulsory courses might therefore be already covered in the technical minor. In this case, the student should replace such courses from the list of optional courses presented.

The additional minor in turn is aimed at students of Communications Engineering, Product Deelopment and User Interfaces option or Networks and Systems option, who are majoring in a telecommunications or information technology related field, and wish to gain a set of business skills that are useful in the telecommunications industry.
