S-38.130 Licentiate course on Telecommunications Technology (4+1+3 cr.)


Course Topic Spring 2000: Routing Algorithms in the DiffServ MPLS Networks

The course aims to cover the architectural issues, latest proposals, current research issues and future of the Routing Algorithms in the DiffServ MPLS netowrks.

The course can be included in post-graduate studies on Telecommunications Technology (major or minor in S38). The credits can also be included in graduate studies on telecommunications technology.

The course is primarily meant for post-graduate students of telecommunications technology having a special interest in understanding the routing algorithms and DiffServ MPLS networks.

To keep the course manageable participation will be limited. Please contact the course assistant as soon as possible to ensure your participation in the course.


Course completion

The course will be arranged as a seminar. Seminar language will be English. Each participant will give a presentation on his/her subject from the material. Each student will report his/her subject in a seminar paper and will act as an opponent once.
  Each participant will choose a subject from the candidated  topics according to his/her interests and consult the course assistant about his/her preference. The participant may also reserve/suggest his/her own presentation topic.

If an adequate amount of high-standard papers emerge they will be published in the Laboratory of Telecommunications Series. This may require additional work on the paper!

Organisation

The first meeting of the course will be held on Feb. 9th, at 15:00 - 17:00 in lecture hall H. 402. There will be the first introductory lecture and the seminar subjects will be dealt out. There is one following introuduction lecture on Feb 23rd, at 15:00 - 17:00 in lecture hall H. 402. The presentations will be held on April 14th and 15th as a seminar weekend in TKK Dipoli, Poli-kabinetti (HUT campus). The examination is arranged in Hall S2 on May 19th, 16:00-19:00.

Credits

The course will produce 5 credits: 4 credits for the seminar paper, presentation, opponeering and active participation; 1 credit for the examination. Participation requirement will be 70%.

The paticipant will get UP TO 3 additional credits if he/she deepens his/her work on his/her subject! Such work will seemly include  the implementation and the simulation of the routing algorithms. Please, see the schedule for further details.
