The inherent problems of TCP algorithms, particularly during transient congestion, create difficulties for the network flow(s) to achieve the required QoS. The thesis identifies existing problems of TCP, which hinders the possibility of providing an assured quality of service (QoS) in a Differentiated Services (DiffServ) Network with an Assured Forwarding (AF) per hop behaviour [PHB], and proposes three solutions
to improve TCP's performance in such a network. Majority of the analysis was done using NS simulator. One of the solutions was implemented in Linux kernel. My supervisor was Dr. Lillykutty Jacob.
