Helsinki University of Technology:
- I joined HUT as the acting professor on Telecommunications
Technology
in
1996.
- Was nominated a full professor by the University board in May
2001 for
5 year period 9/2001...8/2006. In 2006 I became a tenure professor at TKK.
- I have taught four M.Sc level courses
of which two and a half courses I created myself. Run Ph.D courses on
Networking
Technology.
- Initiated a Studia
Generalia
on Telecommunications at HUT in 1997.
- Active in the degree programme structural development activity at
the
Department
of Electrical and Communications Engineering.
- Director and Initiator of the International Masters
Programme in Telecommunications from 1999. Master's Programme in
Communications Engineering from 2005.
- Director of International Study Affairs at ECE (2001 ...)
- Member of ECE Department Council (2001 - 2004)
- Head of the Laboratory of Telecommunications Technology for 1998

year 2000, again 8/2002 - 12/2003 and 2005. The lab renamed to Networking Laboratory in 2001
- Nominated to Head of Department of Communications and Networking
from 1/2008.
- Research in the areas of Traffic Classification in the Internet,
IP
switching
technology, IP Voice systems, Signaling, Peer-to-Peer networks, QoS
routing in the Internet and the Future Internet.
- Leader of the TEKES funded Spear Head project on Intelligent
Routing Network.
- Leader of the EU funded MobileMan HUT subproject on Service
Discovery in Ad Hoc Networks and ETNA on Ethernet Transport Networks.
- Supervised about 250 Master's theses from 1997 at TKK.
- Supervised ca 15 Licentiate theses at TKK (till 2008).
- Supervised 4 Doctoral theses at TKK.
Business:
- Worked in Nokia Telecommunications from 1980 till 1996, starting
as a
software
engineer for the DX 200 switching system and finishing as head of
research
for the DX 200 switching system platform.
- Held positions included R&D manager, Department Manager in
R&D,
Head of switching product marketing in UK (two years) and member of
TINA
core-team at Bellcore.
- Member of the Supervisory Council in Sonera Corporation from 1998
till
2001.
- Senior Technical Advisor to the Board of CSC Tieteellinen
Laskenta Oy

- ), the company running the Finnish Supercomputing Centre and
the
Finnish University Network (FUNET).
Education:
- Doctor of Technology (Computer Science) at HUT in 1995.
- M.Sc in applied mathematics and computer science at the Leningrad
Electrotechnical
