METROPOL

METROPOL was a research project at the Helsinki University of Technology (nowadays Aalto University) dealing with the Demand Responsive Transport in Metropolitan areas. The project was led by Sober IT. The teletraffic theory group, led by Prof. Samuli Aalto at the Department of Communications and Networking, participated in the project Apr 2009 - Dec 2010. Our group targeted various more theoretical aspects that supported the main project. In particular, we focused on:

  1. Combinatorial optimisation problems related to vehicle routing task in the system.
  2. Performance modeling and analysis of the system by means of analytical and simulation methods.
  3. Online vehicle assignment and routing problems, where decisions must take into account the anticipated future requests.
