Abstract: In emerging high-speed networks, such as ATM, new applications arise. One promising scheme is extensive use of large multicast group connections for service delivery. Due to multicast connections, the performance analysis of such networks becomes more complicated, and new methods are needed. One specific question is the analysis of the signalling load in network nodes. In this paper, we first present a method for calculating the signalling action rates in links for multicast traffic. This method is then used to analyse the processing cost due to signalling load in network nodes for three protocol scenarios. As an application, the signalling load of a TV distribution network is studied.
